After a chilly winter with many nights staying in instead of facing the cold you might feel like you have watched everything Netflix has to offer. Don’t despair! Here are my absolute favourite films on the theme “fashion”:
Diana Vreeland – the eye has to travel
Meet a woman with a vision: Diana Vreeland. The film documents her life growing up in Paris in the early 20th century and her move to New York, where she worked as the fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar and later on American Vogue, making the magazine reach the popularity it has today. You will hear audio recordings and see video interviews with Diana where she reveals her point of view on style, fashion and life in general. An inspiring, glamorous and entertaining film for sure.

Iris
This film features Iris Apfel, a 93-year-old fashion icon who has inspired fashionistas all over the world with her unique sense of style. Iris fashion sense is highly creative, colourful and truly liberating. Or like she puts it herself: “I don’t have any rules, because I’d only be breaking them.”

Mademoiselle C
This film tells the story on how Carine Roitfeld, stylist and Editor in Chief of Vogue Paris steps down from her position at Vogue and moves to New York to start a brand-new fashion magazine called CR Fashion Book. Carine is the impediment of French style throughout the film: effortlessly cool with a lot of attitude.

Dior and I
Follow fashion designer Raf Simons as he puts together his first haute couture collection for Dior. You get to see how much work lays behind the collections and how Raf together with his team of dedicated seamstresses manages to pull it off in only in eight weeks. It’s impressive! The clothing is beautiful and the details impeccable.

Bill Cunningham New York
See this film and fall in love with Bill. Such a sweet character with an extraordinary eye for style. Bill is a street style photographer who has documented fashion on the streets of New York since the late seventies. It’s so refreshing to see him peddling along on his old bike in his blue workman’s jacket, completely unimpressed by the celebrity and the spectacle, keeping an eye out for what really interest him: true style. Like Anna Wintour says: “We all dress for Bill. It’s one snap two snaps or he ignores you which is death.”
